VIENTIANE, Laos, Apr. 2, 2015 – Ford Motor Company and its local partner Lao Ford City today celebrated the arrival and official launch of the Mustang in Laos, which is among the first ASEAN markets to receive the iconic car.
To mark its 50th anniversary of continuous production, the all-American sports car is going global, with Laos being one of a select number of markets in Asia to receive the new Mustang.
From the racetrack to the silver screen, and from the airwaves to the toy box, the Mustang is an enduring part of automotive and pop culture, and with more than nine million units sold, it is one of the most popular cars in the world.
The new Mustang is the most advanced version yet, with a sleek new design for the fastback and convertible. The modern and muscular interpretation of the classic Mustang design is more aerodynamic, and has improved fuel efficiency performance. It also comes with world-class handling, more precise steering control and enhanced ride comfort.
“We are thrilled to give our customers in Laos the opportunity to own a new Mustang, which is truly the heart and soul of Ford,” said David Westerman, managing director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
“Mustang inspires passion like no other car. It resonates with people, even if they’ve never driven one – and now, fans in Laos will finally be able to get into a Mustang for themselves to experience the thrill and excitement of this fantastic performance vehicle.”
All-new shape, yet unmistakably Mustang
The clean-sheet design for Mustang evokes the essential characteristics of the brand, retaining key design elements – including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck – with contemporary execution. Balancing world-class dynamics to deliver a superior ride quality, drivers can feel both confident and at ease in the Mustang.
Leaving an everlasting impression for drivers and passengers, an aviation-inspired cockpit provides accessible information and controls. The attention to detail in sculpting the Mustang can further be seen in the high degree of craftsmanship found in its interiors. Large, clear instrumentation puts vehicle information right in front of the driver in the roomy cabin, while thoughtful ergonomics and tactile switches and knobs provide precise control.
The Mustang experience
Mustang delivers exactly what a driver expects – a broad, flat torque curve that pours out when one stands on it for easy passing, or hustling down a twisty road. No stranger to raw horse power, this ‘pony car’ – so called because of the category of high-performance, accessible, compact sports cars it started in 1964 – flexes its muscles with several engine options, giving drivers more choices.
Customers in Laos can choose from the following two options:
• a 5.0-liter V8 producing 435 horsepower
• a new turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost® producing 310 horsepower
The legacy of the Mustang continues with the latest edition of the 5.0-liter V8, now featuring an upgraded valve train and cylinder heads that yield 435 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. A new intake manifold improves low-speed breathing for better fuel economy, idle stability and emissions.
Specifically designed for Mustang is the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. This new engine adds to Ford’s EcoBoost lineup of high performing, fuel efficient engines.
Each powerplant is available with either a manual or automatic transmission that makes the pony car a great all-around performer – no matter how the equipment is mixed and matched to suit any individual driving style.
New levels of technology and safety
Equipped with an array of smart and innovative technologies, the Mustang is definitely smarter than your average pony. It features the award-winning Ford SYNC® connectivity system that allows drivers to perform various commands hands-free.
The Mustang is also big on safety. The car is equipped with five airbags for driver and passengers, and has an additional two side-curtain airbags among a myriad of standard safety features aimed at protecting both drivers and passengers.
Other key technology and safety features include:
• MyKey® – program that promotes good driving habits, such as seat belt use, limiting vehicle’s top speed and decreasing audio volume
• Intelligent Access with Push Button Start
• SOS – Post-Crash Alert System
• Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
• AdvanceTrac with Electronic Stability Control (EBC)
• Rear View Camera
